Marion M. Goodwin of Vineland, New Jersey died Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Bishop McCarthy Center for Rehabilitation & Healthcare. She was 90 years old. Marion was born March 3, 1928 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late William Del Valle and the late Irene Del Valle (nee - O’Connor). She is the beloved wife of the late Daniel Joseph Goodwin; loving Mother of Patricia M. Freiling and her husband Thomas M. Devoted Grandmother of Daniel T. Freiling; sister of Richard DelValle and the late Robert DelValle.
Marion was raised and educated in an orphanage in Philadelphia in the 1930s. She started working at an early age for a florist, as a nanny, and as a candy striper. Marian met the love of her life, Daniel Goodwin through his sister, and the two would be married in 1951. She enjoyed baking and was known for her vegetable soup which she would make for sick neighbors and friends. Marion volunteered at the Opportunity Shop for the Medical Mission Sisters in her free time. She also enjoyed traveling: earlier in life camping with her family in their beloved Volkswagen Camper and later vacationing at the shore in Ocean City, New Jersey. Marian was a longtime member of St. Cecilia’s Parish in Foxchase before moving into Huntingdon Valley, and then finally to Vineland, New Jersey to live with her daughter and son-in-law for the last 10 years.
Relatives and friends were invited to her viewing on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 from 9:45 A.M. and Funeral Mass at 10:30 A.M. at St. Cecilia Church, 535 Rhawn Street, Philadelphia, PA 19111. Her graveside service followed at Hillside Cemetery, 2556 Susquehanna Road, Roslyn, PA 19001.
Religious services were conducted by St. Cecilia Church.
