John R. Skurla of Roslyn, Pennsylvania died Friday, August 18, 2017 at Abington Hospital Jefferson Health. He was 82 years old. John was born August 24, 1934 in Tresckow, Pennsylvania, son of the late Steve Skurla and the late Helen Skurla (nee - Goydich). He is the beloved husband of the late Marie Anne (nee Andeara) Skurla; father of Gerald Skurla and his wife Lyn Dohaney, Lawrence Skurla and his wife Valerie, Theresa Higgins and her husband Mark, Richard Skurla and his wife JoAnne, Mark Skurla and his wife Laura, and Laura Skurla; grandfather of Miranda Skurla, Stephanie Higgins, Kevin Higgins, Jake Higgins, and Julianna Skurla.
John was raised and educated in Tresckow, PA, He continued his education with courses at Penn State ICS. In 1956 John enlisted in the US Army, operated radar systems for Nike launch systems, and served honorably until his discharge in 1959. John and Marie raised their family in Roslyn where they were longtime parishioners at St. John of the Cross Parish. He worked in the computer industry after the military for 30 years in both technical support and marketing roles until he retired from Unisys. He was involved with Boy Scouts of America Troop 437 for many years serving as Advancement Chairman as well as other roles.
Relatives and friends were invited to his visitation on Saturday, August 26, 2017 from 9:30 A.M. and to his Funeral Mass at 10:30 A.M. at Queen of Peace Church, 820 North Hills Avenue, Ardsley, PA 19038. His graveside service with military honors rendered by the United States Army followed at St. John Neumann Cemetery, 3797 County Line Road, Chalfont, PA 18914.
Religious services were conducted by Rev. Lawrence F. Crehan from Queen of Peace Church.
