William O'Brien of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania died Friday, May 19, 2017 at his home. He was 91 years old. William was born November 22, 1925 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, son of the late William O’Brien and the late Georgina O’Brien (nee - McKeller). He is the beloved husband of the late Viola; father of Bill O’Brien, Doreen Fries and her husband Don, Jim O’Brien and his wife Penny, and the late Debbie Joseph; grandfather of Kelsey, Jamie Lynn and CJ, Nicholas, Jesse, and the late Christopher; great-grandfather of Karlee and Harry and Chad and Mason; brother of Marjorie “Aunt Sis,” the late James, and the late Peggy; he is also survived by a loving extended family.

William was raised and educated in Philadelphia where he attended Northeast High School, Class of 1943. There he was involved in the Track and Field programs and still holds school records for the 5 mile run. William served his country bravely during World War II in the United States Navy and was later honorably discharged. In 1977, he opened his own business, B&J Machine, Inc., where he would eventually work side by side with his sons.

Relatives and friends were invited to his viewing on Thursday, May 25, 2017 from 9:00 A.M. and funeral service at 10:30 A.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 419 Huntingdon Pike, Rockledge, PA 19046.

His graveside service took place on Friday, May 26, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. along with military honors rendered by the United States Navy at Resurrection Cemetery, 5201 Hulmeville Road, Bensalem, PA 19020.

The family requests that donations in his name be made to Holy Redeemer Hospice, who provided superior care for William’s wife Viola. They can be contacted via Holy Redeemer Health Systems, 521 Moredon Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006.
