George Horace McCullen of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania died Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at Philadelphia Protestant Home. He was 85 years old. George was born July 12, 1932 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, son of the late George McCullen and the late Helen McCullen (nee - Trainor). He is the he is the beloved husband of 54 years of the late Elizabeth J. (nee Ross) McCullen. He is survived by his sisters Louise Sestito and Edna May Sweeney, brother Alfred McCullen. George is also survived by his many nieces, nephews and friends.

George was born, raised, and educated in Philadelphia. He enlisted in the United States Army on February 2, 1948, at age 16, serving honorably until his first discharge in October of 1951. He reenlisted immediately and served honorably during the Korean Conflict in Germany as a cook. He was discharged again in October of 1954 with the rank of Sergeant. George was a proud Veteran and volunteered to play the trumpet for veteran services. After the loss of his wife, he moved into the Philadelphia Protestant Home and continued to volunteer, assisting wherever needed. George was a long time active and faithful member of the Lawndale Baptist Church where he also served for many years as a trustee. George touched many lives and had a large impact of those he met along the way.

Relatives and friends were invited to his viewing on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 from 10:30 A.M. and funeral service at 11:30 A.M. at Philadelphia Protestant Home, 6500 Tabor Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19111. Military honors rendered by the United States Army and graveside service followed at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA 18940.

Religious services were conducted by Rev. Matthew Campbell from Lawndale Baptist Church, 6433 Lawndale Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19111.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Lawndale Baptist Church, 6433 Lawndale Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19111.
