Sandra T. Herbst of Willow Grove, Pennsylvania died Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at her home. She was 74 years old. Sandra was born May 8, 1943 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Franklin Threapleton and the late Myrtle Threapleton (nee - Anderson). She is the beloved mother of Ralph “Rafe” L. Herbst IV and his wife Kelli and Franklin T. Herbst and his wife Kelly; grandmother of Michaela and Emily; she is also survived by her friend and former husband Ralph L. Herbst III and her dearest cat Felix.

Sandra moved with her mother and grandmother to her home in Willow Grove when she was 14 years old in 1957. She graduated from Upper Moreland High School and Ursinus College. After college she was a teacher for several years in the Souderton Area School District before raising her two sons at home. She returned years later to teaching, taking a job closer to home with the Upper Moreland School District. In the early 1990s Sandra took a break from full time teaching to care for her mother during the day time. She continued working for a few years at night at American Bank Note Company before transferring to Gemalto, where she was still employed at the time of her death. She was always working hard at something.

Sandra surrounded herself with friends and family. She loved to cook and bake for her family and friends while entertaining at her home. She cooked most everything from scratch. Her home and property were always meticulously maintained and she recently enjoyed cultivating African Violets. She took great pride in making sure everything was just right. Over the years, the family had many types of pets but Sandra was known as a cat lover and adored Felix who is her current cat. Sandra was a Philadelphia Phillies Phanatic. She didn’t watch TV but loved watching the Phillies play and went to games when she had the opportunity to attend in person. She was an avid reader. Other favored activities included helping out Rafe and Kelli’s flyball team and playing tennis at least once a week over the last 30 plus years.

She will be best remembered for caring for her family and friends.

Relatives and friends were invited to her visitation on Friday, December 15, 2017 from 9:00 A.M. and service of remembrance where friends and family were requested to share a favorite story at 10:00 A.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 501 Easton Road, Willow Grove, PA 19090. Her graveside service followed at Hillside Cemetery, 2556 Susquehanna Road, Roslyn, PA 19001.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Circle of Life Veterinary Clinic c/o Felix Fund, 920 Town Center, New Britain, PA 18901. Donations will be used to help Sandra’s favorite veterinary office rescue cats and provide support for cat owners who incur unexpected veterinary expenses.
