Joseph T. McCloskey of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania died Thursday, December 28, 2017 at his home. He was 86 years old. Joseph was born September 25, 1931 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, son of the late John A. McCloskey and the late Rosaline McCloskey (nee - McParland). He is the beloved husband of Patricia M. McCloskey (nee Cadieux); father of Joseph McCloskey Jr. and his wife Donna, Patti McCloskey and John, John McCloskey and his wife Anna, Danny McCloskey and his wife Maureen, and the late Susan McCloskey; grandfather of Kerianne, Joey, Sean, Johnnie, Kelly Ann, Justin, Makayla, Katelyn, Ian, Kenny, Ryan, Stephen and his wife Kristen, Danny Boy, Brian, Richie and his wife Kristin, Jenny, and Danny; great grandfather of Joey, Jason, Emma, Sophia, Stephen, and Sean Paul; brother of Peggy Donahue, Jimmy McCloskey and his wife Sheila, the late John and the late Eugene and his wife the late Regina. Brother in law to John Cadieux and his wife Audrey.

Joe was born, raised, and educated in Philadelphia where he graduated from North Catholic High School in 1949. Joe met Patricia Cadieux in 1952 when both were employed at First National Bank. He joined the United States Army in January of 1953 and was honorably discharged in January of 1955 having attained rank of Sergeant. His military awards included: Occupation Medal Germany, Good Conduct Medal, and National Defense Service Medal. Joe and Patricia were married in 1955 after his release from the Army. The couple lived in the Port Richmond and Lawncrest neighborhoods for a while before settling in Fox Chase where they had lived for 47 years as of 2017. Joe was a banker during his working career and after his military service spent time at First Pennsylvania, Core States, Wachovia, and Wells Fargo Banks before finally retiring in 1996.

Joe and Patricia were members of Liberty Bell Drum and Bugle Corps and Reilly Raiders Drum and Bugle Corps. They had the good fortune to travel to Ireland with Reilly Raiders. They were also longtime members of St. Cecilia Parish in Fox Chase. Joe was an avid football fan and loved watching the Eagles and supporting Notre Dame. Joe worked hard to support and care for his family. He will be greatly missed by many.

Relatives and friends were invited to his viewing on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 from 8:00 to 10:00 A.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 419 Huntingdon Pike, Rockledge, PA 19046. His Funeral Mass followed at 10:30 A.M. at St. Cecilia Church, 535 Rhawn Street, Philadelphia, PA 19111. His graveside service and military honors rendered by the United States Army followed at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 3301 West Cheltenham Avenue, Cheltenham, PA 19038.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148.
