Robert Adam Smith of Jenkintown, Pennsylvania died Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Abington Hospital Jefferson Health. He was 65 years old. Robert was born April 8, 1952 at Abington Hospital in Abington, Pennsylvania, son of the late Adam Benjamin Smith and the late Dorothy Mae Smith (nee - Simons). He is the brother of Mary Williamson, Theodore R. Smith Sr., Jean Knapp, and the late Benjamin Smith. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews.
Robert was born, raised, and educated in his lifelong home of Abington Township. His family owned a farm in the Roslyn section of Abington Township for many years. Robert graduated from Abington High School and went to work for Abington Hospital in 1970. He enlisted in the United States Army, in 1972, and served honorably, as a Medic, in Vietnam until his discharge in 1975. After serving his country, he returned to his work at Abington Hospital where he would remain until his health wouldn’t allow him to continue. Robert did not drive, but enjoyed walking everywhere. He especially enjoyed his walk to work which he referred to as “the house” and his co-workers as his “family”. Robert enjoyed music and going to concerts, science-fiction, bowling, and was an avid reader. He loved to give back, donating to many organizations including St. Luke’s hospital for children, the Wounded Warrior Project, and growing his hair out and donating it to Locks of Love. He loved his “Family” at “The House” and would be happy to work holidays so that his co-workers could spend time with their families.
Relatives and friends are invited to his memorial service on Friday, February 23, 2018 from 12:30 to 2:30 P.M. at the auditorium at Abington Hospital Jefferson Health, 1200 Old York Road, Abington, PA 19001.
