Dmytro Blahy of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania died Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at his home. He was 95 years old. Dmytro was born August 8, 1922 in Rye, Ukraine, son of the late Mykola and the late Tekla Blahy. He is the beloved husband of the late Stephanie Blahy; Father of Orest Blahy and his wife Genya and Myron Blahy and his wife Olga; Grandfather of Larysa Tatarenko and her husband Peter, Michael Blahy and his wife Yulia Panyak, Ulana Blahy, and Christina Eberhart and her husband Simon; great grandfather of Charles Tatarenko, Maksim Eberhart, and Oliver Tatarenko; brother of the late Theresa Cheluch

Dmytro was educated in Berezhany outside of his home town of Rye. Dmytro and Stephanie met in a displaced persons camp in Augsburg, Germany where they were later wed. They emigrated to the United States in 1951 with their son Orest. Dmytro was very active in the Ukrainian community. He sang for over 40 years first in the Kobzar and later in Prometheus, a Ukrainian Men’s Choir. He was an avid reader and enjoyed following politics. His greatest love was his grandchildren. As proven when he walked from Fox Chase to Rydal in 16” of snow, while in his 80’s, to make sure they were taken care of when their parent’s were unable to be home due to the storm.

Relatives and friends were invited to his viewing on Friday, February 9, 2018 from 10:00 A.M. and Requiem Divine Liturgy at 11:00 A.M. at St. Michael the Archangel Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1013 Fox Chase Road, Jenkintown, PA 19046. His graveside service followed at Lawnview Cemetery, 500 Huntingdon Pike, Rockledge, PA 19046.

Religious services were conducted by Father Volodymyr Kostyuk from St. Michael the Archangel Ukrainian Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to United Ukrainian American Relief Committee, Inc., 1206 Cottman Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19111 or Ukrainian Education and Cultural Center, 700 North Cedar Road, Jenkintown, PA 19046.
