Alice P. Chapla of Rockledge, Pennsylvania died Monday, February 12, 2018 at her home. She was 82 years old. Alice was born December 31, 1935 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Joseph Orbell and the late Anna Orbell (nee - Joyce). She is the beloved wife of Wallace E. Chapla; mother of Walter Chapla and his wife Lois and Patricia Walsh and her husband Matt; loving Nana of Nicole, Sara, and Caitlin Chapla and Julia Young and her husband Brendan, Mary Kate and Aileen Walsh; sister of Joseph W. Orbell and his wife Laura, the late Anne Harrison, and the late Sadie Crisemire.
Alice was born, raised, and educated in Philadelphia. She grew up on Jerome Street in the Hunting Park neighborhood of the city and attended St. Stephen’s parish. Alice attended and graduated from Little Flower Catholic High School for Girls in 1953. After graduation she began working at Honeywell as a secretary. While at Honeywell Alice met Wallace Chapla who worked in the ordering department. The couple were married in 1957. Alice retired from Honeywell in the early 1990s.
Alice was a member of the seniors group at Prince of Peace church in the Lawndale neighborhood of Philadelphia. She enjoyed bowling at the Del Ennis Lanes in Huntingdon Valley. Alice spent a lot of fun times with her friends swimming and socializing at Somerton Springs and vacationing with them at the New Jersey shore and in Cancun. Most importantly, she loved spending time with her family and loved taking her granddaughters, “Nana’s girls,” to all of their events and loved spending time with them.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Saturday, February 17, 2018 from 9:00 A.M. and Funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph’s Manor, 1616 Huntingdon Pike, Meadowbrook, PA 19046.
Religious services will be conducted by Father Laurence Gleason from St. Joseph’s Manor.
