Lowell Schultz was born in Arcadia, Wisconsin on April 26, 1929. The family farm was his home early in life where he contributed to the work of cultivating crops, raising livestock including silver foxes, and maintaining the farm equipment. His parents were the late Elmer and Zelda (Lorch) Schultz. He was the beloved husband of Doris (Anderson) Schultz and the loving father of Karen (Schultz) Ferrante and her husband John. Lowell passed away peacefully on July 27, 2021 at the age of 92.
Lowell was a Korean War veteran. He served from 1950-1954 in the Army Security Agency and was stationed in Germany. After graduating with honors from the Non-Commissioned Officer Academy in Germany he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Minnesota. He went on to have a successful career with Honeywell, working on the Apollo Space Program in Minnesota and then working at the Process Control Division in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania. The family moved to Maple Glen, Pennsylvania in 1970. In 2012 Lowell and Doris moved to Ann’s Choice Retirement Community in Warminster.
While attending the University of Minnesota he and Doris met and were married in 1961. They were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Karen, in 1963. Lowell and Doris shared many interests, including their love of travel. In their 60 years of marriage they visited all 50 of the United States and all 10 provinces/3 territories in Canada, mostly in their motor home. They also enjoyed trips to Spain, Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Mexico, the Cayman Islands and St. John.
Lowell was a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church in Horsham, Pennsylvania for 51 years. He was a man of many interests and talents and generous with his ability to repair almost anything. He liked to say he was “always a fixer.” From a very young age he was creative and a maker. As late as this year he was passionate about being on the cutting edge and enjoyed designing and printing items on his 3-D printer. In his retirement he also enjoyed woodworking, restored dozens of antique radios, contributed to repairs of the Ann’s Choice Retirement Community model train platforms, and learned how to fly radio controlled planes.
In addition to his wife, Lowell is survived by his daughter, Karen (John) Ferrante, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters and husbands, JoAnn Tamke and Roger; Judy Peterson and Jack; and his nephew Ricky Tamke.
Relatives and friends were invited to his memorial service on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at 10:30 A.M. at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 620 East Welsh Road, Horsham, PA 19044.
Religious services were conducted by Rev. Ellen Meissgeier, Pastor of Resurrection Lutheran Church, 620 East Welsh Road, Horsham, PA 19044.
