Maria Rush of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania died Monday, December 25, 2023 at West Chester Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was 98 years old. Maria was born August 15, 1925 in Engstingen, Germany, daughter of the late Leopold Dietmann and the late Josephine Dietmann (nee - Waidman). She was the beloved wife of the late William M. Rush; She was predeceased by a sister Johanna and two brothers, Leopold and Joseph. She is survived by two sisters Erna and Paula. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Maria was born and raised in Engstingen, a small town in Baden-Württemberg, in southern Germany, about 30 miles south of Stuttgart. She met her husband, who was in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany after World War II, and they came to the United States on March 7, 1948, and were married a month later, on April 29th. They lived in the Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia until moving to the Fox Chase section of the city in 1973. Maria worked as a seamstress for the Strawbridge and Clothier Department Store in Philadelphia for 48 years until her retirement in 1996. She has been a longtime member of St. Cecilia Roman Catholic Church.
Relatives and friends were invited to her visitation on Wednesday, January 3, 2023, from 10:00 to 10:25 A.M. and Memorial Mass at 10:30 A.M. at St. Cecilia Church, 535 Rhawn Street, Philadelphia, PA 19111.
