J. David Feiler of Southampton, Pennsylvania died Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at Abington Hospital Jefferson Health. He was 96 years old. David was born March 8, 1926 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, son of the late John Godfrey Feiler and the late Mollie Feiler (nee - Fox). He is the beloved husband of Doris A. Feiler (nee Eberhart); father of Robert Feiler and his wife Ruth and Gary Feiler and his wife Deborah; grandfather of Kimberly Stephens and her husband Jeremiah, Jonathan Feiler, Stephen Feiler, Sarah Ogle and her husband Benjamin, Amy VanDyne and her husband Jonathan, Rachel Marshall and her husband Alec, and Rebekah Hufford and her husband Caleb; great grandfather of Molly and Emily Stephens, Connor and Dylan Ogle, Saliim Bey, Ryan, Mason, and Brody VanDyne, Ty’Wan and Zy’Wan Marshall, and Quinn Hufford.
At the end of high school David elected to join the United States Navy. He served from March of 1944 until his honorable discharge in May of 1946 at rank of Radioman Second Class. He served on the USS Gearing DD710 and the USS YMS 57. After his service David completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration at Drexel University in Philadelphia. He worked for 46 years at Crown Cork & Seal Inc as manager of sales administration until his retirement in 1994.
David was a member of Fellowship Church in the Hunting Park neighborhood of Philadelphia where he was a long time Sunday School Superintendent for 36 years, board member, and player on the church softball team. Later he was a member at New Life Community Church in Huntingdon Valley where he assisted on the Missions Committee.
In his free time David loved to play tennis, ping pong, and pool. He enjoyed traveling with Doris and their friends to diverse destinations including: Alaska, Hawaii, the Rockies, the Caribbean, and Europe. He was a Rail Road enthusiast with particular interest in steam engines. David kept a collection of maps showing active and inactive railroads in the US. Every year he helped run the annual Sunday School picnic at Carson Simpson Farm. He enjoyed everything that he did and was always helping others.
Relatives and friends were invited to his viewing on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 from 9:00 A.M. and funeral service at 10:30 A.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 501 Easton Road, Willow Grove, PA 19090. His graveside service followed with military honors rendered by the United States Navy at Whitemarsh Memorial Park, 1169 Limekiln Pike, Ambler, PA 19002.
Religious services were conducted by Chaplain Paul Chaya from Southampton Estates, 238 Street Road, Southampton, PA 18966.
