Ella Steiner of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania died Friday, September 2, 2022 at Philadelphia Protestant Home. She was 91 years old. Ella was born February 25, 1931 in Whalenthal, Germany, daughter of the late Johann Wenzel and the late Maria Wenzel (nee - Hoft). She is the beloved wife of the late Erich Steiner; mother of Christine Kuchar and her husband Otto; grandmother of Laura Dale and her husband William, and Erica Logan and her husband Scott; great grandmother of Brennan and Isla Dale, and Darcy and Brady Logan; sister of Emil Wenzel. She was predeceased by her brothers Witold, John, and Eric Wenzel, and her sister Ida Vienazindis. She is also survived by his nieces, nephews, and their families.

Ella was born in Whalenthal, East Prussia, Germany on the Lithuanian border in 1931 and moved with her family soon after to the German community in the town of Tauroggen in Lithuania where she was raised and educated. The family moved back to Germany and then to Austria during World War II. Ella married her husband Erich in 1952, and then emigrated with her husband and daughter to the United States in 1955. She and her husband were long time residences on Ferndale Street in the far Northeast section of the city. Ella worked as a seamstress for the Keystone Knitting Mill in Philadelphia for 26 years, until her retirement in 1993. She was a 40 year member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Olney and was a long time member of the Danube Swabian Association of Philadelphia, the Donauschwaben, a German social organization.

Relatives and friends were invited to her visitation on Saturday, October 1, 2022 from 9:00 A.M. and memorial service at 10:00 A.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 419 Huntingdon Pike, Rockledge, PA 19046. Her graveside service followed at Resurrection Cemetery, 5201 Hulmeville Road, Bensalem, PA 19020.

Religious services were conducted by Rev. Dr. Jack Fletcher Price from Serenity Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Olney, 5900 North 5th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19120 or Philadelphia Protestant Home Benevolent Fund, 6500 Tabor Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19111.
