Ofelia “Bita” Valencia Garcia Escobar, age 86, passed away peacefully on Saturday August 29, 2020 due to complications from Alzheimer’s. She was born May 22, 1934 in Cali, Colombia South America to Adolfo Garcia and Oliva Valencia of Cali, Colombia South America. She was the beloved wife of Marino Escobar who preceded her in death in 2010.
Bita loved to love on people. She was a long-time seamstress who constantly hand-crafted beautiful gowns and clothing for family and friends. Her hands were rarely still. It would be no surprise to find her behind her “machines” sewing dresses for her daughter and granddaughters while they were at work and school.
Ofelia was a dedicated mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and wife. She treasured her family and embraced every moment with them. She had a vivacious personality and always made people feel loved and cared for.
Ofelia is survived by her daughter Evelyn Marin and her husband Eduardo, son Fredy Escobar; grandchildren, Andres and his wife Kerri, Mauricio, Oscar, Melicia and her husband Eric, Roman and his wife Kelly, Mia and her husband Dan, Marlio, and Lena. Great-grandchildren Taylor, Mackenzie, Braeden, Mona, Opal, Eva, Marlio, Teo, Emerson, Maggie, Ella and Killian Michael. All of these she loved and touched deeply.
Throughout her life Ofelia was a devout catholic and parishioner of St. Albert the Great, and often walked to mass. Her family is comforted today knowing the Lord walked beside her through the darkness and lead her back to peace.
Relatives and friends were invited to her viewing on Friday, September 4, 2020 from 9:30 to 10:45 A.M. and Funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. at Epiphany of Our Lord Church, 3050 Walton Road, Plymouth Meeting, PA 19462. Interment was private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley Chapter, 399 Market Street, Suite 102, Philadelphia, PA 19106.
