Hugo Groeber of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania died Friday, March 6, 2020 at his home. He was 79 years old. Hugo was born May 12, 1940 in Reading, Pennsylvania, son of the late Edwin Groeber and the late Hermine Groeber (nee - Schmitt). He is the beloved husband of Christine Groeber (nee - Schmidt); father of Wayne Groeber and his wife Christine, and Todd Groeber and his wife Britt; grandfather of Nelson, Olivia, Ellie, Sophie, Taylor, and Austin Groeber; brother of Edwin Groeber and his wife Joan, Raymond Groeber and his wife Sonja, and Paul Groeber and his wife Linda.

Hugo was born in Reading, PA. He was raised in the Tacony section of Philadelphia and graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in the city. He was employed for 45 years on the assembly line at Penn Fishing and Tackle Manufacturing Company in the Nicetown section of Philadelphia. He and his wife lived for many years on Belden Street in the city and were members of the Tabor Lutheran Church at Mascher Street and Roosevelt Boulevard. They were active members of the First German Sports Club Phoenix in Trevose, PA. In their leisure time, Hugo and Christine traveled around the world, including Australia, Germany, Costa Rico, Canada, and Alaska. Their love of travel began with camping in the late 1970's in a tent with the family. This progressed to a more luxurious accommodation, a pop-up trailer just a year later. They would use the trailer for the next 25 years. During a vacation in the mid 1990's, he took a stained glass class. This hobby would then consume his time when not traveling. He created many works of art for family, the family home, and to use as fund raising for the Philadelphia Protestant Home Benevolent Fund.

Relatives and Friends are invited to Hugo’s Memorial Service on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 12:00 PM at the Phoenix Sports Club, 301 Bristol Road, Trevose, PA 19053.
