The following obituary was composed by Edward’s family
Edward Drewniany passed peacefully in his home at Holy Redeemer Lafayette on August 18, 2020, with his daughter, Lisa Bazemore, and his son Peter by his side. Beloved husband of the late Bernadette Drewniany for 63 years, he is survived by his son and daughter, grandsons Brendan, Tyler, and Luke, and a host of relatives who celebrated his 100th birthday with him last fall.
The son of Polish immigrants and one of seven children, Ed was born and raised in Taunton, Massachusetts. He went on to the University of Michigan, where he graduated in 1942 with a degree in Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering. In a career that spanned more than fifty years, he worked for such firms as Westinghouse, Curtiss-Wright, and John Deere. Holding several patents, he referred to himself as a “design engineer of unique products,” including the rotary engine.
Ed possessed an extraordinary optimism and passion for life. It is no surprise to those who knew and loved him that a favorite song was “What a Wonderful World.” He loved nature, he loved animals, he loved gardening, and he loved to read. Residents at Holy Redeemer frequently said that if you were looking for Ed, check the library first. He loved to learn, whether discussing a book, sharing an article from the Philadelphia Inquirer, or untangling an intricate design puzzle with a fellow engineer. Most of all he loved his family members, who have been blessed to have known him for so many years.
Edward’s Memorial Service has been postponed due to the Covid-19 restrictions. Updates will be added to this page when services are scheduled.
