Alvin Charles Garner of Allentown, Pennsylvania died Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at Country Meadows Retirement Communities. He was 95 years old. Alvin was born June 21, 1924 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, son of the late Herman Garner and the late Molly Glassberg. He is the beloved husband of the late Jeanette Schriner; father of Linda Lewis, Alvin J. Garner, Herman M. Garner, Joseph C. Garner, and Tracey C. Frantz; grandfather of Kelly, Kim, Luke, Keith, Lee, Sarah, Megan, Abby, Cassidy, Blake, Alexis, and Renee; great grandfather of Shawn, Howie, Molly, Kate, Owen, Elisabeth, and John; and the brother of Dot Putric, Irma Fickle, and the late Irene Nicholas. He is also survived by his “daughter” Glennda “Chick” Eberz.

Alvin was born, raised, and educated in Harrisburg, PA. After graduating John Harris High School, Alvin joined the U.S. Navy where served during WWII and retired as a chief petty officer after 20 years in dedicated service to his country. After retiring from the Navy in 1963, Alvin worked for Wilson Pontiac and was one of their top salesmen. You see, Alvin loved people and would always bring home stories of the people he met along the way. Wherever Alvin went he made friends and brightened people’s days.

Relatives and friends were invited to pay their respects on Saturday, February 1, 2020 from 9:00 A.M. and Fleet Reserve Association, Branch 146, service and funeral service at 10:00 A.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 501 Easton Road, Willow Grove, PA 19090. His graveside service with military honors rendered by the United States Navy followed at Whitemarsh Memorial Park, 1169 Limekiln Pike, Ambler, PA 19002.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley Chapter, 399 Market Street, Suite 102, Philadelphia, PA 19106.
