Sophie M. Colpe of Glassboro, New Jersey died Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at her home. She was 96 years old. Sophie was born January 23, 1924 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late James Coyle and the late Sophie Coyle (nee - DeBuigne). She is the beloved wife of the late William L. Colpe Jr.; mother of Jean Moffatt and her husband Bob, Jim Colpe, Carol Rosu and her husband Peter, David Colpe and his wife Sophie, and the late William Colpe III; grandmother of Jeff Moffatt, Patrick Moffatt, John Moffatt and his wife Elizabeth, Rosemary McDowell and her husband Peter, and Sarah Moffatt and her husband David, Jacqueline Rosu, Samantha Rosu, Elizabeth Colpe, Matthew Colpe, Kevin Colpe, and Dillon Colpe; great grandmother of Natalie, Nash, Jack, Richie, Robert, and Margaret; sister of the late Mary Navin.

Sophie was born, raised, and educated in Philadelphia where she graduated from Dobbins Technical High School focusing on commercial art. Sophie met William while they worked together at Cuneo Eastern Press in the Juniata section of the city. They were married August 28, 1948 at Mater Dolorosa Parish in the Frankford section of Philadelphia. Sophie would spend the rest of her life raising her growing family. Sophie grew to love the Mummers becoming a huge fan. She attended many outdoor concerts and visited the Mummers Museum when possible to take in a show. She was not shy to tell you the Ferko String Band was her favorite and referred to them as her “happy Music”. Sophie enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles. She also made a habit of clipping articles and recipes (which amounted to quite the collection).

In light of recent events, the family has opted to have services privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Mummers Against Cancer Foundation Inc., P.O. Box 49995, Philadelphia, PA 19149.
