Queenie Mary Burkle of Roslyn, Pennsylvania died Friday, June 12, 2020 at Rydal Park. She was 95 years old. Queenie was born August 10, 1924 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Edward Archer Taylor and the late Mary Ann Taylor (nee - Moakes). She is the mother of Edward John Burkle and the late James Edward Burkle; grandmother of Pamela Page and her husband Rev. David, and Jeffrey William Burkle.

Queenie was born, raised, and educated in Philadelphia though her mother had emigrated from England just a short time before she was born. Queenie is in fact her real name, and the answer to a questions she would be asked from her first day at school where a teacher requested a singed letter from her parents to prove it. The story of the name began when Queenie’s mother befriended a couple during her emigration on an ocean liner and while she hadn’t realized at the time it was a nickname, she was so taken with the wife’s name “Queenie” that she decided to name her daughter the same. She married William Burkle in 1943 and was essentially a single parent until the end of the war when Bill returned home. The family moved from Philadelphia to the suburb of Roslyn where Queenie lived for 65 years.

Relatives and friends were invited to her viewing on Thursday, June 18, 2020 from 9:00 A.M. and funeral service at 10:00 A.M. at the Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 501 Easton Road, Willow Grove, PA 19090. Her graveside service followed at Whitemarsh Memorial Park, 1169 Limekiln Pike, Ambler, PA 19002.

Religious services were conducted by Rev. Neil E. Kulp from Chelten a Church of Hope, 1601 Limekiln Pike, Dresher, PA 19025.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Chelten a Church of Hope.

Family flowers arranged by LeRoy’s Flowers and Gifts, Inc 215-323-5407.
