Marie Miller of the Fox Chase section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania died Thursday, August 13, 2020 at The Birches at Arbour Square Assisted Living. She was 92 years old. Marie was born January 13, 1928 in Plavna, Yugoslavia, daughter of the late Anton Knebl and the late Katarina Knebl (nee - Aschberger). She is the beloved wife of the late Frank Miller; mother of Marie McNamara and her husband John and Kathy Wittemann and her husband Tom; grandmother of Brian McNamara and his wife Janis, Tina Browning and her husband Michael, Matt Wittemann and his wife Rachel, and Katie Mayer and her husband Jon; great grandmother of Colin, Ava, Mikey, Alyssa, Ella, Alice, and Gwendolyn; sister of Stefan Knebl and his wife Blanche.
Marie was born, raised, and educated in Yugoslavia. In 1948, Frank Miller asked his friend Anna about a friend who lived in the same barracks as her in Vienna, Austria. That friend was Marie Knebl. They fell in love immediately and on the second date Frank told her “I’m going to marry you”. The two married in Vienna on July 24, 1948. They emigrated to the United States in 1950 with their new daughter and settled in the Burholme area of Philadelphia. They moved to a new construction in the Fox Chase section of the city in 1956. Marie was a seamstress by trade and always dressed impeccably, often making her own clothing. She was a fantastic gardener and loved to cook, bake and decorate her home.
