Richard J. Brown of Rockledge, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully on Monday, October 5, 2020 at the age of 96. He was born on January 19, 1924 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late George Brown and the late Veronica Brown (nee Bloom). He is the beloved husband of the late Kathryn (nee Kurtz); father of Kathleen, Michael (Jane), Richard (Amy), Stephan (Ann), Kenneth (Sandi), David (Andrea), and Thomas; grandfather of Timothy, the late Lee, Michael, Matthew, Katie, Richard, Jason, Steven, Derek, Dorrene, Veronica, Christopher, and Holly. He is also survived by a loving extended family.

Richard was born and raised in Philadelphia. He attended Olney High School before answering the call to serve his country during World War II. He joined the United States Army on May 3, 1943 and was honorably discharged on February 3, 1946 after obtaining the rank of Sergeant in the 661st Tank Destroyer Battalion. Honors that he received include many medals for conduct, service, and skills.

Before entering the service, young Richard worked as an air conditioning machine operator for the Cramp Shipbuilding Corporation. After serving, he enjoyed gainful employment with Western Electric and became an associate member of the Communications Workers of America union. Whenever possible, Richard enjoyed golf, fishing, metal detecting, puzzles, and nature.

Relatives and friends were invited to his viewing on Friday, October 9, 2020 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 419 Huntingdon Pike, Rockledge, PA 19046. Relatives and friends were also invited to his graveside service with military honors rendered by the United States Army on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 3301 West Cheltenham Avenue, Cheltenham, PA 19038. A funeral procession departed from the funeral home in the morning at 9:15 A.M. or friends chose to meet the procession at the cemetery in the parking lot of Holy Sepulchre via the Cheltenham Avenue entrance.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to SPCA of Montgomery County, 19 East Ridge Pike, Conshohocken, PA 19428.
