The family has lovingly composed the following obituary:

Debra (Debbie) Getz, age 67, passed away early morning on November 8th, 2020 after her long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born on June 6th, 1953 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Debbie spent her childhood in Bensalem with her father, Vincent DiBelardino, mother, Dora, and sister, Joanne.  She is survived by her husband, Wayne Getz, daughter, Samantha, son, Alex, and grandson, Chase.

Debbie met the love of her life, Wayne Getz, while working in her family’s luncheonette. Wayne worked up the courage to ask her out on a date and the rest, as they say, is history.  The two were happily married on November 12th, 1977. Together they built a beautiful home together and created a family filled with love. In 2016 she became a Mom Mom to her grandson, Chase. As Chase would always say, “My Mom Mom is the BEST Mom Mom.”

Debbie was an educator at heart. Her education began at Bloomsberg University where she discovered her talents and passion in speech and language. She continued her advanced education at Trenton State (now The College of New Jersey) and obtained a master’s degree in speech pathology.

Debbie started her career at CORA services as speech pathologist, giving countless children and adults a voice through her compassion and teaching.  Her gift for working with students with special needs was recognized and she was offered the pre-k/kindergarten class at Our Lady Confidence, a school for individuals with special needs.  It was here where she could focus on speech/reading development in the early years of these extraordinary children. Not only a teacher; she worked tirelessly as an advocate for her students and their parents. She was their voice, their heart, and their courage.

You’ll be in our hearts, always.

Family and friends were invited to her viewing on Saturday, November 14, 2020 from 9:30 A.M. and Funeral Mass at 10:30 A.M. at St. David Church, 316 Easton Road, Willow Grove, PA 19090. Her graveside service followed at Pine Grove Memorial Park, 1475 West County Line Road, Warminster, PA 18974.

Religious services were conducted by Rev. Matthew P. Windle from St. David Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Catholic Foundation of Greater Philadelphia, Debbie Getz Memorial Fund, 100 North 20th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103.

Family flowers arranged by Kremp Florist 215-657-6700.
