Edward Joseph Portley Sr. of Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania died Thursday, November 19, 2020 at his home. He was 80 years old. Edward was born January 13, 1940 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, son of the late John Thomas Portley and the late Alverda Pearl Portley (nee - Topping). He is the beloved husband of Doris Scharas Chalmers Portley; father of Theresa Lambert and her husband Edgar, Edward J. Portley Jr. and his wife Deborah, Donna Kenny and her husband William Frysinger, Robin Gross and her husband Daniel, and the late Michael J. Portley; grandfather of twelve; great grandfather of seven. He is also survived by his mother in law Doris Chalmers.

Edward was a Frankford High School graduate. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served honorably until his discharge in 1961. Edward and Doris raised their family in the Olney section of Philadelphia. He worked as a Machinist and a Numerical Control Programmer during his working career. In his free time Edward enjoyed genealogy, chess, and teaching people to drive.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Monday, November 23, 2020 from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 419 Huntingdon Pike, Rockledge, PA 19046.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, masks are required and social distancing is recommended. As a courtesy to others, if attending the visitation, please pay your respects and exit the building to allow others to enter as numbers will be restricted.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Simon’s Heart, 424 East Elm Street, Second Floor, Conshohocken, PA 19428 or Calvary Presbyterian Church of Wyncote, 217 Fernbrook Avenue, Wyncote, PA 19095.
