The following obituary was lovingly composed by Marie’s family.
Marie was the beloved mother of Ted, Scott and David Smith. Wife of Chester Smith for 59 years. Grandmother to Rachel, Jessica, Ben and Carl. Marie never knew a stranger and always welcomed people into her home. Created a loving home on Willow Ave and served as a 2nd Mother to so many. Marie Grew up in Glenside, PA and was a graduate of Abington High School. She always had fond memories visiting The Academy of Music where her adored father served as stage manager to the Philadelphia Orchestra. She spent many cherished summers at the shore house in Pville with family and friends. She will be missed by fellow residents at Commonwealth in Willow Grove...where she spent a comfortable year. Her son Scott came to play for the residents.
There was a memorial mass held for Marie at St. Peters Episcopal Church, 654 North Easton Rd., Glenside, PA starting at 11:00 AM on Friday August 12th followed by a gathering of friends and family at the church.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations in Marie’s name be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741 or the ASPCA 520 8th Avenue, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10018.
