John R. Schoch, age 62, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 23, 2021 in Ocean City, New Jersey. John was born June 13, 1958 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The much loved husband of Mary A. (nee Riley) Schoch, “dear old dad’ of Kara and Abagail Schoch, beloved son of Herman H. Schoch and Ruth (nee Hafer) Baione (Paul N.) and brother of Keith H. Schoch (Deborah) and the late Christine Schoch (David M. Simpson). John is also a loved member of the entire Riley family.

John was raised in Cheltenham, graduated from Cheltenham High School, and continued his studies at LaSalle College. John enlisted in the United States Navy in February of 1976 and was honorably discharged from active duty in 1979. He continued his service in the Navy reserves for four more years.

John was an exceptional crane operator, and proud member of the Operating Engineers Local #542 and AmQuip Crane.

John acquired incredible skill and passion for home renovation and repair. He was a true craftsman. Over the last several years, John became an avid fisherman, spending countless hours at the Ocean City, New Jersey fishing piers, no matter the weather. His favorite spot was the Harrah’s Fishing Pier. Time spent with his fishing buddy Lamont and the guys at the pier was something he looked forward to for weeks in advance. John had a quick mind, a generous heart and was a friend to every person he met.

John’s daughters held his heart. Spending time with Kara and Abby, hearing the sounds of their laughter, was the highlight of his life. John was always there for his girls, no matter what, in every way.

After 26 years of marriage, his passing leaves an absolutely irreplaceable void in the heart of his wife Mary.

Relatives and friends were invited to his visitation from 9:00 to 10:30 A.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 419 Huntingdon Pike, Rockledge, PA 19046.  Due to Covid restrictions his service and burial were private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Disabled American Veterans, 5000 Wissahickon Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19144.
