Dr. Tsang Jan "TJ" Chen of Elkins Park, Pennsylvania passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at his home. He was 86 years old. TJ was born November 13, 1934 in Hsinchu, Taiwan, son of the late Dan K. Chen and the late Lee Fong Chen. He is the beloved husband of sixty years to Ai Ching “Amy” Chen (nee Lue); father of Dr. Luci Yang and her husband Dr. Farley, Dr. Kathy Hwang and her husband Dr. Sam, and Dr. David Chen and his wife Dr. Kathy grandfather of Andrea and Branden Yang, Matthew and Andrew Hwang, and Sophie and Jacob Chen; brother of Sue Ching Lin and her husband the late Frank and Dorothy Chou and her husband the late David.

Dr. Chen was born, raised, and educated in Hsinchu, a northern city in Taiwan. TJ and Amy were married in 1961 in Taiwan. He graduated from National Taiwan University and came to the United States in 1963 where he would study at North Dakota State University. He received his doctorate in 1967 and went to work for Eastman Kodak in Rochester, NY. TJ and Amy raised their family in Rochester while he worked as a chemist in the Research Department. TJ was integral in the development of over 20 patents before his retirement in 1991. In 2012, they moved to the Philadelphia area to be closer to their son and his growing family. TJ loved to travel, especially cruises. He enjoyed classical music, singing, reading and photography.

Relatives and friends were invited to his visitation on Monday, June 14, 2021 from 12:00 P.M. and memorial service at 1:15 P.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 419 Huntingdon Pike, Rockledge, PA 19046. His reception followed at New Life Presbyterian Church Glenside, 467 North Easton Road, Glenside, PA 19038. Interment will be private.
