Sieglinde Jakymiw of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania died Saturday, October 23, 2021 at VITAS - Nazareth Hospital. She was 87 years old. Sieglinde was born September 11, 1934 in Munich, Germany, daughter of the late Herman Fischer and the late Martha Auguste Fischer (nee - Seling). She is the beloved wife of the late Mykola Jakymiw; mother of Linda Jakymiw; loving Oma of Samantha and Veronica. She was predeceased by her sisters Carola and Alexandra. She is also survived by her companion Otto Leukert.
Sieglinde and Mykola were married March 10, 1951 in Munich. They came to America in September of that same year and started their lives together in Princess Ann, Maryland. Six months later they moved with the Ukrainian community to Philadelphia. They bought their first home on Wentz Street in Philadelphia but Mykola built their “forever home” on Verree Road in 1976. Sieglinde worked for many years as an executive assistant at Penn Mutual Insurance. She was very active in the German community writing in the newspaper German-American Press and attending trips and activities at her beloved Cannstatter Volksfest Verein, Vereinigung Erzgebirge, and the Bayerischer Volksfest Verein. She also loved her church family at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church. Sieglinde enjoyed traveling, cut flowers, and writing.
Relatives and friends were invited to her visitation on Friday, October 29, 2021 from 10:00 A.M. and funeral service at 11:00 A.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 419 Huntingdon Pike, Rockledge, PA 19046. Her graveside service followed at Forest Hills Cemetery, 101 Byberry Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006.
Religious services were conducted by The Reverend Norbert F. Hahn, Ph.D. from Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 14100 Worthington Road, Philadelphia, PA 19116.
