William J. "Bill" McClain of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania died Saturday, January 1, 2022 at Abington Hospital Jefferson Health. He was 82 years old. Bill was born May 13, 1939 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, son of the late William Henry McClain and the late Mildred Anna McClain (nee - Schopfer). He is the beloved father of Father of Joyce Skovera and her husband John and Keith McClain and his wife Deanna; Grandfather of Ariel and Zandra Skovera and Meghan and her fiancé Nigel Lindsay, Erin, Rebecca, and Abigail McClain; brother of Dorothy McClain.

Bill was raised in the Kensington section of Philadelphia and attended Sheridan Elementary, Stetson Middle School and Frankford High School.

He continued his education at Temple University, receiving his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Education and Administration.

He spent his whole career in the School District of Philadelphia, teaching at H.A. Brown and William Rowan Elementary Schools. In the 1970's he became Principal of Dobson Elementary School. He retired in 1999.

Bill loved baseball and Presidential history. He enjoyed visiting many past U.S. President’s homes and final resting places and visiting ballparks around the country.

Bill was a long-time member and officer of the New York C.S. Lewis Society and very involved in the churches he was part of through his life. Most importantly to him, Bill was a devoted grandfather to his six granddaughter’s who were the center of his life.

Relatives and friends were invited to his viewing on Saturday, January 8, 2022 from 9:00 A.M. and funeral service at 10:00 A.M. at Oreland Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 1119 Church Road, Oreland, PA 19075. His graveside service followed at Northwood Cemetery, 1501 Haines Street, Philadelphia, PA 19126.

Religious services were conducted by Rev. Daniel Phelps from Oreland Evangelical Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to American Diabetes Association, PO Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116.
