The following obituary was composed by Mary’s family:

Mrs. Mary Makejew Carpenter left this life to join her Lord and Savior for eternity on January 29, 2022. She passed peacefully from this life at her home as she wished attended by her faithful friend and assistant Mr. Frank Peters.

To anyone who knew her Mary was a kind, caring and loving friend. She loved animals and they had a special place in her heart. She loved watching them from her window.

She will always be remembered for her support of Native American culture and Missions. In particular Native American mission schools in South Dakota.

Mary held many different jobs in her life time but what she most loved to do were her crafts. An ardent handicrafter, she made jewelry, crocheted, repaired ceramics, repaired and refurbished dolls and did various other kinds of needle and art work.

Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband John Makejew and her son John Makejew Jr., her parents Ellis Carpenter and Augusta Carpenter Mooneyham; by her siblings Curtis Carpenter, William Carpenter, and Julian Carpenter.

She is survived by her grandsons John Makejew III, Jason Makejew, Her neices Maryann Kalytka, Carpenter and Nancy Mullica Carpenter, her nephew Curtis Carpenter Jr. and four generations of nieces and nephews both living and deceased.

Relatives and friends were invited to her viewing on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 from 9:00 A.M. and funeral service at 10:00 A.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 419 Huntingdon Pike, Rockledge, PA 19046.
