Paul Marsala of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania died Monday, January 10, 2022 at Abington Hospital Jefferson Health. He was 98 years old. Paul was born April 13, 1923 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, son of the late Giacomo Marsala and the late Sebastiana Marsala. He is the beloved husband of the late Patricia E. Marsala; father of Jim Marsala and his wife Pat and Patti Nwankwo; grandfather of Sean, Shannon, Paula and Bill Marsala, Lisa, Joe, and Nick Nwankwo; great grandfather of Carter Marsala and Madeline Nwankwo.

Paul was born, raised, and educated in Philadelphia. He was a graduate of Edward W. Bok Technical High School. He joined the United States Navy in March of 1943 and served honorably during World War II in Pennsecola, Fl and on the USS Belleau Wood. After boot camp, he went to Parachute Riggers School where he was surprised to learn he would need to make a jump with his fellow riggers. An avid baseball player, he played minor league ball and also played for the Navy in exhibition games during the war. He was discharged in April of 1946 and went to work as a tailor for the Yellow Cab Company and played ball on their union team. Paul worked for many years as a buyer for United Metal Traders retiring at the age of 95.

Relatives and friends are invited to his graveside service on Friday, July 1, 2022 at 2:30 P.M. at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA 18940.

Religious services will be conducted by Chaplain Peter Gregory, USN Ret.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley Chapter, 399 Market Street, Suite 250, Philadelphia, PA 19106.
