Kenneth E. Abbott of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania died Thursday, March 3, 2022 at Majestic Oaks Nursing Home. He was 89 years old. Kenneth was born November 6, 1932 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, son of the late Herbert Abbott and the late Pearl Abbott (nee - Townsend). He is the beloved husband of the late Ruth M. Abbott; father of Douglas Abbott; brother of George Abbott and June Mandelaro. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews.

Ken was born, raised, and educated in the Frankford Section of Philadelphia. He attended Frankford High School. He was a drummer in the Hegeman String Band in his late teens to early twenties and also played the steel guitar. Ken joined the US Army in February of 1953 and served honorably until his discharge in 1955. He went to work for Sears Roebuck. While working there he met Ruth. The two fell in love and were married in 1960 at Kensington Assembly of God. They lived in several sections of the city including Fox Chase, Somerton, and Rhawnhurst as well as a seven year period in North Miami Beach, Florida before settling in the Burholme section of Philadelphia. Ken worked for M. Cardone Industries from 1978 until his retirement in 1997. He enjoyed watching and cheering on the Philadelphia teams, especially the Eagles and Phillies. Later in life he became a great cook, a skill he mastered taking care of his wife.

Relatives and friends were invited to his viewing on Saturday, March 12, 2022 from 9:00 A.M. and funeral service at 10:00 A.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 501 Easton Road, Willow Grove, PA 19090. His graveside service followed with military honors rendered by the United States Army at Hillside Cemetery, 2556 Susquehanna Road, Roslyn, PA 19001.

Religious services were conducted by Pastor Jerry Paradise from Calvary Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), 520 8th Avenue, 7th floor, New York, NY 10128-6804.
