William Connor Newbold— son, brother, grandson, and friend—left us too soon.
On Saturday, May 14, 2022, at 22 years old, he passed away at his family home in Chestnut Hill, PA.
William was humble, kind, and caring—a gentle soul loved by all who met him. He had sparkly blue eyes, lit up a room, and put a smile on everyone’s face. Born on May 29, 1999, to Will and Leslie Newbold, William was always known for his charm and quick wit. He loved history, golf, reading, cooking (lamb stew was his specialty), drawing, legos, and movies.
He was a natural athlete playing multiple sports and was the Springside Chestnut Hill Academy Crew Team captain during his senior year. He was the “King of the Bowling Alley,” crushed it on any karaoke stage, and loved to regale us with fun facts. He adored his SAE fraternity brothers and friends at College of Charleston, his many friends from home and beyond, and all of his large, extended family, MOST especially his brother Chase and his sister Sam. He loved dogs and recently took many long walks with the family’s new golden, Oakley.
William was a sensitive young man who sadly developed “hidden” depression which he battled silently over this past year. Though he began receiving valuable help, unfortunately, he chose to end his life just two weeks before his 23rd birthday, leaving his family shocked, devastated, and heartbroken.
He is survived by his parents, Will and Leslie; his younger brother, Chase, and his younger sister, Samantha; his paternal grandparents, Diana Muir, Michael and Sally Newbold, Charlie Muir and Susie Perot; his maternal grandparents, Robert and Veronica Connor; Uncles and Aunts: Michael and Marion Newbold, Scott and Julie Newbold, Annie Newbold and Mark Baker, Julianna Newbold, Bobby Connor, Caroline Connor, and Michael Withey as well as innumerable cousins and “frousins.”
Private funeral services were held in-person for family members.
The family requests any donations be sent in lieu of flowers to the Springside Chestnut Hill Academy - Crew Program, 500 West Willow Grove Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19118 or St. Martin-in-the-Fields, 8000 St. Martins Lane, Philadelphia, PA 19118.
