Michael John Kelly of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania died Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Fox Chase Cancer Center. He was 79 years old. Michael was born February 10, 1943 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, son of the late John Kelley and the late Elizabeth Smolens (nee - Reilly) and her husband the late Alvin. He is the beloved husband of the late Judith Claire Kelly; father of Beth Finnegan and her husband Mike, Jason Kelly and his wife Alyson, Michael J. Kelly Jr., and the late Jeffrey Kelly and his wife Carol. He is also survived by his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was the brother of Murray Smolens, Susan Woods, and the late Martin Smolens.
Michael was born, raised, and educated in Philadelphia. He was a graduate of Frankford High School. Michael went to work for PTC, and later SEPTA, as a driver in the Comly depot and later as a cashier at the Broad Street Line. He remained close to his coworkers and looked forward to gatherings of the “Comly Old-Timers”. Michael and Judith married on February 10, 1979, in Darby, PA. in his free time, Michael enjoyed working on his model trains and die cast replicas of classic cars.
Services will be private at the family request.
