The following obituary was lovingly composed by Sally’s family.

Sally Ann von Meyer of Willow Grove, Pennsylvania died Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at Brandywine Senior Living, Dresher Estates.  She was 81 years old.  Sally was born October 20, 1940 in Omaha, Nebraska, daughter of the late Edward Norman and the late Grace Norman (nee - Vermillion).  She is survived by her longtime companion and friend, Sal Tarta as well as her children, Malissa von Meyer and Craig von Meyer. She was a devoted grandmother to Amanda Morrow, Cristina Ward, Hayden von Meyer and Avery von Meyer. She was also great-grandmother to Luke Morrow and Reagan Morrow.

Sally began her lifelong passion for education at Wayne State Teachers College where she earned her teaching degree. An avid learner she went on to earn her Master's degree at Purdue University and continued graduate work at Bryn Mawr College. Sally called teaching one of the greatest joys of her life. She used her intellectual gifts as a dedicated and talented science educator for over 30 years at Abington High School- lovingly referred to as "Mrs. V" by her students. She primarily taught chemistry and biology and was a staunch advocate for not only her students but also her peers through her work with the teacher's union.

Among her favorite pastimes were drinking a strong cup of coffee, reading a mystery novel, cheering for the Philadelphia Eagles, and baking the best pies in Willow Grove. She loved history and literature and spent her younger years taking her children to visit battlegrounds to tour American historical sites. Sally had a love of animals, especially birds and squirrels. She often gave of her time and funds to protect wildlife.

If teaching was one of the greatest joys of her life, the other was clearly her family. Throughout her life Sally could often be found at her children and grandchildren's important moments, never missing a chance to spend time with her family. She supported them at countless dance recitals, soccer games, music showcases, and horse shows. Her family says they will need the strength she tirelessly taught them to get through the greatest challenge of all, coping with her loss. Sally was their greatest champion.

A celebration of life took place on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at 10:00 A.M. with a receiving time from 9:30 A.M. at the Briar Bush Nature Center, 1212 Edge Hill Road, Abington, PA 19001.
