The following obituary was lovingly composed by Beverly’s family.

Beverly Lynn Dejong Akers, of Lucketts, Virginia, formerly of Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, died on Monday, June 6, 2022. Born April 14, 1954, she was the daughter of Norma Viola and Fred Wegan Dejong.

Born in Philadelphia, Bev grew up in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, graduating from Upper Moreland High School in 1972. She married her beloved husband Robert (Bob) W. Akers on August 19, 1972 and they had three children, Jennifer (1974), Julie (1978), and Robert (1981).

In 1984, Bev and family moved to Fairfax, Virginia where they were active members of Pender United Methodist Church, and later, Ox Hill Baptist Church. Her steadfast faith guided her through life – she read the bible and prayed daily. She was an avid quilter and turned her love of sewing into a successful business where she made draperies and home fashions for clients throughout Northern Virginia. In 2003, Bev and Bob moved to Lucketts, Virginia.

Bev was devoted to her family and loved frequent visits with her mother, sisters, and in-laws. She was a kind and loving mother. She took a special interest in her nieces and nephews and enjoyed spending time with them. She would say her grandchildren were the joy of her life. She shared her love of baking, making art projects, and exploring the woods and creek near her home with them. She loved spending time with her husband, Bob, traveling to the Outer Banks or to visit new places or just sitting on the front porch drinking coffee and watching the birds. She will be remembered for her kindness and sweet disposition. Her absence will be felt deeply by all who knew her.

Beverly is survived by her beloved husband, Robert William Akers; children Jennifer Lynn Raab (Stefan), Julie Lauren Hwang (Franklin), Robert William Akers, Jr.; and grandchildren Gabrielle Soojung Hwang, Katrina Ruth Raab, Adelena Lynn Akers, Tristan Jacob Raab, and Robert Charles Akers. She is also survived by her mother Norma Viola Grundstrom and sisters Sharon Lee O’Hara, Norma Jeanne Murray, Faith Elizabeth Munsgi (Onil).

Relatives and friends were invited to her memorial service on Friday, June 17, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 501 Easton Road, Willow Grove, PA 19090. Interment was private.

Religious services were conducted by Rev. Shelby Scott.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley Chapter, 399 Market Street, Suite 250, Philadelphia, PA 19106.
