Joseph Duffy of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania died Saturday, July 2, 2022 at Holy Redeemer Hospital. He was 84 years old. Joseph was born July 29, 1937 in Sligo, Ireland, son of the late James Duffy and the late Bridget Duffy (nee - Kennedy).
Joseph moved to America in his early 20s with his sister Maureen, traveling aboard the S.S. America. They settled in Philadelphia, which would become Joseph’s home for the rest of his life. He met Martina Jordan in Ireland, who also emigrated to Philadelphia, and they married in Joseph’s mid-twenties. Joseph worked at Acme Market Warehouse in South Philadelphia for thirty years. Joseph was deeply committed to his Catholic faith, and was an active member of St. Cecilia Church for thirty years. Joseph enjoyed walking in the park, word puzzles, chatting with everyone he knew in the neighborhood, and attending mass every Sunday.
Joseph was the beloved husband of 57 years to Martina (nee Jordan) Duffy; father of Eileen (Phil Caterino) Duffy, Martina (David Wagenschutz) Duffy, and the late Sandra Duffy; grandfather of Madeline, Matilda, Maime, Matthew, the late Michael, and the late Ryan; great-grandfather of Josh; brother of John (the late Margaret) Duffy, the late Maureen Duffy, Evelyn Duffy, Seamus (the late Maureen) Duffy, Bridget (the late Frank) Sullivan, the late Veronica (the late Thomas) Staunton, the late Philomnena (the late Bernard) Finn, and the late Margaret Duffy; and uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends were invited to his viewing on Saturday, July 9, 2022 from 8:30 to 9:30 A.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 419 Huntingdon Pike, Rockledge, PA 19046. His Funeral Mass began at 10:00 A.M. at St. Cecilia Church, 535 Rhawn Street, Philadelphia, PA 19111. His graveside service followed at Resurrection Cemetery, 5201 Hulmeville Road, Bensalem, PA 19020. Friends were invited to a reception following the service at the cemetery at Bensalem Township Country Club, 2000 Brown Avenue, Bensalem, PA 19020.
