The following obituary was lovingly composed by Ellen’s family:
Ellen Geneva Dager Wivell, passed on July 20th at the age of 87 years at Commonwealth Senior Living in Willow Grove. She was born in Philadelphia and named after her grandmother Ellen McAllister (BMom) and her middle name was from her other grandmother Mary Geneva Ackers. Her parents were Helen Louise Sturdivant and William Robert Shanks.
Ellen grew up in a large Irish family with ties to Orangemen’s Home, now Wesley Enhanced Living where she lived for the past several years with her husband, Frank. She is survived by her husband, Frank Wivell, her children Barbara Dager Dean (Jim), David R. Dager, Jr (Lisa), Dr. Janet Dager Drake Whalen (Stephen), and Frank’s children Dr. Wayne Wivell (Kathy), and Karen Serfass (Jeff) She is survived by her siblings Richard Shanks (Sharon), and Louise Peterson. She was pre-ceded in death by her siblings Robert and Bruce Shanks.
She was the proud mother of 3 children, 10 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. As an attentive, active mother, she volunteered her time with Girl Scouts, Upper Moreland Little League, Upper Moreland Public Library, Upper Moreland High School Marching Band, and Upper Moreland Swim Club. She worked in the library at Upper Moreland High School, coached cheerleading, measured field events for track and field, was a wedding planner, and ended her work life as a secretary at Gloria Dei Church. Ellen will be profoundly missed.
Relatives and friends were invited to her Visitation, July 29, 2022 from 9:30-10:30 AM at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 501 Easton Road, Willow Grove, PA 19090. Memorial Service at 10:30 AM. A graveside service followed at noon at Whitemarsh Memorial Park Cemetery in Ambler.
