Jovan Bokun of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania died Monday, August 15, 2022 at his home.  He was 81 years old.  Jovan was born December 29, 1940 in Vladimirovac, Serbia, son of the late Petar Bokun and the late Draginja Bokun (nee - Božic).  He is the beloved husband of Dobrila (nee Borojevic); father of Zoran “Joe” Bokun and his wife Susan; grandfather of Jovan and Vito Bokun; brother of the late Mirjana Bokun; cousin of Dragan Ogrizovic.

Jovan was born, raised, and educated in Serbia. He trained as a butcher after primary school. He and Dobrila were married on March 25, 1962, in Serbia, and just celebrated 60 years of married life. They emigrated to the United States on June 24, 1970 with their 6 year old son. They started their lives in the states in Bronx, NY and later moved to Philadelphia. Jovan, Dobrila and their son opened “Jovan’s Place” where they served Serbian home style meals in 1987. They were known for their gracious manner and large helpings. Jovan’s Place became a neighborhood staple in the Fishtown section of Philadelphia. Jovan was happiest when spending time with his grandsons. He also enjoyed visiting with longtime friends. Every year he looked forward to hunting season and would travel to northern Pennsylvania for deer.
