James Monroe Moffett of Hatfield, Pennsylvania went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 1, 2022. He was 94 years old. James was born October 20, 1927 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, son of the late Joseph Moffett and the late Sophia Moffett (nee - Bruck). In his youth, James spent time in an orphanage. He went to sea as a merchant marine at age 17, and later joined the Army. James worked for many years as a heavy equipment operator at Jack Frost Sugar. James also did work for his church, and found great pleasure and meaning in serving the Lord however he could. He drove the church bus, and loved bringing kids to class so they could learn about Jesus. At one point he even worked as a church custodian. James loved doing puzzles, especially Jumbles. James also loved painting and drawing, and passed his passion for art to his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed watching sports, and hardly ever missed an Eagles or Phillies game.

Far beyond all else, however, James loved his family, and loved his Lord and Savior. In his final days, James talked ceaselessly about how blessed he was, and how much he loved his family. James faced many hardships in life. He beat cancer twice, pneumonia, a burst appendix, an infected gall bladder, and throughout it all he never complained. James knew there was nothing in life he couldn’t face with the strength of his Lord and the love of his family. He had an incredible work ethic, which he passed onto his daughters. James will be remembered for his quiet strength, resiliency, and his endless devotion to Jesus and his family.

He is the beloved husband of the late Leona Eleanor Moffett, whom he was married to for 72 years; father of Sally Martin and her husband John, Michele Moffett and her husband Dan Bright, and Vicky McKnight and her husband Ed; grandfather of Jason Martin and his wife Sheila, Trevor Martin, Amanda Veneziale and her husband John, Elizabeth Taylor-Winterbottom and her husband Michael, Lynne DeLeon and her husband Richard, Allyson Gouse, Megan McKnight-Wiegand and her wife Jen, and Edward McKnight and his wife Lisa; great grandfather of Giovanni, Nico, Sara, Tabitha, Michele, Cheyanne, Abbi, Charlotte, Willow, Ryleigh, Violet, Eleanor, Avery, Harper, and MacKenzie; and uncle of Gary Malone and his wife Kathy, and Tommy Moffett.

Relatives and friends were invited to his viewing on Saturday, September 10, 2022 from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M., and funeral service at 10:30 A.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 501 Easton Road, Willow Grove, PA 19090. Interment was private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Church of the Open Door, 1260 Fort Washington Avenue, Fort Washington, PA 19034.
