Hilda Marie Haug of Albrightsville, formerly of the Mayfair section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania died Sunday, October 2, 2022 at St. Luke’s Hospital Bethlehem. She was 92 years old. Hilda was born September 4, 1930 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Carl Schiele and the late Catherine Margaret Schiele (nee - Benreuther). She is the beloved wife of the late Frederick W. Haug; mother of Eugene C. Haug “Butch” and Linda Schmid and her husband Glenn.

Hilda was born, raised, and educated in the Kensington section of Philadelphia. She was a graduate of Kensington High School for Girls. Although dreaming of becoming a teacher, Hilda went to work for the Bell Telephone Company after school. Her father and his friend Carl introduced Hilda to a young man who just emigrated from Germany named Frederick Haug. Although Hilda thought they would likely remain friends, the two fell in love and were wed on October 6, 1956 at Tabor Lutheran Church. Hilda left the phone company a while later to raise her two children, but kept busy working part time at Wannamaker’s Department Store. After the untimely passing of her beloved Frederick in 1978, Hilda was able to return to Bell Telephone where she would continue until her retirement in 1991 after twenty years of combined service to the company.

Hilda enjoyed cooking, ironing, and was known for being very organized and focused on details. She used this at her jobs but also as a trip coordinator for one of her senior groups the Prime Timers at St. John’s Mayfair. She would organize trips to casinos, which she enjoyed along with scratch offs, and the Sight and Sound Theater. Always making sure that everything was fair for the members. Along with the Prime Timers, Hilda also enjoyed her time with seniors clubs the Bells and Bows at Johnson Memorial Methodist Church and Golden Friends at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church. She was also a former member of the Eastern Star. Hilda enjoyed traveling, especially cruising on the high seas.

Hilda found great comfort over the past four years living in the Poconos. She would enjoy watching the wildlife, especially the birds, deer, and occasional bear.

Relatives and friends were invited to her viewing on Friday, October 14, 2022 from 9:00 A.M. and funeral service at 10:00 A.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 419 Huntingdon Pike, Rockledge, PA 19046. Her graveside service followed at Sunset Memorial Park, 333 West County Line Road, Feasterville, PA 19053.

Religious services were conducted by The Reverend Norbert F. Hahn, Ph.D. from Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 14100 Worthington Road, Philadelphia, PA 19116.

Family flowers arranged by Domenic Graziano Flowers and Gifts 215-355-1550.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Arthritis Foundation, 1355 Peachtree Street NE, Suite 600, Atlanta, Georgia 30309-2904.
