Herman Joseph "Hank" Baumgartel III of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania died Thursday, November 17, 2022 in West Wildwood. He was 81 years old. Hank was born March 30, 1941 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, son of the late Herman Joseph Baumgartel Jr. and the late Marie Anne Baumgartel (nee - Sembello). He is the beloved husband of 52 years of Eva V. (nee Boyd) Baumgartel; brother of the late Rev. David A. Baumgartel; brother in law of Edith Meck and her husband Larry, Kenneth Boyd and his wife Margaret, and Lois Bach and her husband Jerry. He is also survived by his many cousins in the Houston, Foltz, and Sembello families, nieces and nephews.

Hank was born, raised, and educated in Philadelphia. He was a graduate of St. Williams School and Murrell Dobbins Career & Technical Education High School. He worked many jobs in his early life including an usher at the Crescentville Movie Theater, driving a trolley, delivering milk, and working for the Spiegel Catalog. He went on to work for many years in collections for the Central Penn Bank and it’s many mergers.

Hank and Eva met through their parents. The two families were close and would vacation together in Wildwood, NJ. They married on October 24, 1970 at the North and Southampton Reformed Church in Churchville, PA. They started their lives together in their beloved Philadelphia and continued to vacation in West Wildwood.

Hank and Eva were very involved in the Crecentville section of Philadelphia. They were active members at the Crescentville United Methodist Church, were on the Fourth of July Committee selling t-shirts and running the BINGO game, and later active in the senior groups.

Relatives and friends were invited to his viewing on Monday, November 28, 2022 from 9:00 A.M. and funeral service at 11:00 A.M. at Crescentville United Methodist Church, 412 East Sentner Street, Philadelphia, PA 19120. His graveside service followed.

Religious services were conducted by Rev. Randy Brubaker from Crescentville United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Crescentville United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 412 East Sentner Street, Philadelphia, PA 19120.
