The following obituary was written by Billy’s family:

William Edward "Billy" Dever Sr. passed away peacefully in his home on May 6, 2023 at the age of 70.  He was born and raised in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia, PA and was a proud alumnus of North Catholic High School where he played football and basketball and was known by many as a “Legend” for the part he played in the historic JV Basketball win in the playoffs for North in 1968.  He coached many years as a youth sports coach and was a well-known basketball referee. He was a proud and loving father and grandfather, a beloved son, brother and friend to many. He loved all things sports, especially our Philadelphia sports teams.  He had the biggest heart, would help anyone and always had a nice thing to say or something funny to make you laugh.

He survived by his mother, Geraldine; his siblings, Jimmy (Roseanne), Susie, Gerry (Debbie), Eddie and John (Mina); his children, June, Billy (Katie) and Ben (Danielle); his grandchildren, Colin, Evan, Aubrey, Autumn, Chelsea, Liam and Ryleigh, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He is predeceased by his father, James F. Dever, Sr.
