George H. Volz a resident of Warwick, Pennsylvania died Monday, May 8, 2023 at Holy Redeemer Hospital. He was 87 years old. George was born July 23, 1935 in Eberstadt, Germany, son of the late Georg J. Volz and the late Eva Volz (nee - Schafer). He is the beloved husband of the late Martha Rilling Volz; father of Carl Volz and his wife Kathy, Michael Volz, and Diane Volz; grandfather of Ryan Volz and his wife Bekah, Amanda Volz, Joseph Tino, and Silvio Tino; great grandfather of Beau Tino. He was predeceased by his two sisters and is also survived by his sister in law Lillian Decker, nieces, and nephews.

George apprenticed as a machinist in Germany and emigrated to the United States in 1957. He and Martha met at the Town Hall Pub after attending a funeral in June of 1958. They were married on April 11, 1959. Initially they lived at Martha’s family’s farmhouse in Johnsville before moving to Feasterville. In 1965 they moved to live above the family business, Rilling’s Bakery, on Frankford Avenue where they stayed until 1972. Churchville was their home until 2001 when they settled in Heritage Creek in Warwick.

Martha and George became owners of Rilling’s Bakery in 1977. George was a lifetime active member at the Cannstatter Volksfest Verein and was an honorary director. He was also a long time member of Herman Humboldt Lodge No.125 F. & A.M. and past President of the Philadelphia Master Bakers Association.

George and Martha traveled quite a bit. They loved the Caribbean and had a condominium in St. Martin for a few years followed by a house in Turks and Caicos. They also explored parts of Europe, Rio de Janeiro, Mexico, the Baltic states, and later several cruises. George enjoyed spending time in the Pocono Mountains, bird watching, and making his own wine and schnapps.

Relatives and friends were invited to his memorial service on Monday, June 5, 2023 at Cannstatter Volksfest Verein, 9130 Academy Road, Philadelphia, PA 19114 doors open at 12:00 PM. The memorial began at 12:30 PM with lunch at 1:00 PM.
