Dorothy P. Degler of Collegeville, Pennsylvania passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2023 at St. Mary Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare. She was 83 years old. Dorothy was born July 5, 1939 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Henry H. Stouffer and the late Dorothy M. Stouffer (nee - Pierce). She is the beloved wife of the late Fred G. Degler; mother of Karen Degler and Robb Degler; grandmother of Katie and Ryan Ricciardi; sister of the late Henry Stouffer and his late wife Nettie. Also survived by nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, great grand nieces and nephews, and cousins.
Dorothy (“Dottie”) was born, raised and lived in Philly most of her life. She graduated from Olney High School where she met Fred. They were married in early 1959 and welcomed Karen later that year. In early 1962, they welcomed Robb. Dottie was a stay-at-home mom until her children were teenagers. She worked a variety of jobs including retail, apartment management, church office management, assistant to the president of a national organization of internists working to enhance the quality of healthcare, and nonprofits. Dottie enjoyed children, including her grandchildren, and donated monies to numerous children’s organizations. Throughout her life, Dottie enjoyed needlework, genealogy and shopping. She battled dementia in the last few years of her life and succumbed to its effects, as well as multiple organ failure. May she rest in peace with her beloved husband, brother and parents.
