Anna Hoenisch of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania died Friday, June 2, 2023 at Pennypack Center. She was 83 years old. Anna was born October 27, 1939 in Heufeld, a small town in Germany, daughter of the late Viktor Schusterbauer and the late Maria Schusterbauer (nee - Mehltretter). She is the beloved wife of Paul Hoenisch; mother of Linda Schmidt and her husband the late Rudy; grandmother of Elizabeth Schmidt (Chris Derr); sister of Maria Span and her husband the late Paul, Christl Fleig and her husband the late Ted, and Hilde Block and her husband Martin; sister in law of Rose Juritsch and her husband the late Joe. She is also survived by her many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Anna emigrated to America and Philadelphia with her parents and sisters in April of 1954. Anna attended school to learn English and worked in a bakery. She later found her dream job making jewelry on Chestnut Street. She met her future husband, Paul, when he and her family were at a German club in Brewerytown. Paul asked her for a dance and the rest is history. They married on October 4, 1958 at Saint Cecilia’s Church. Daughter Linda was born in 1959 and Anna devoted her time being a mother and a housewife. The family enjoyed vacations in the Poconos, and after Paul retired in 1990 they visited many of the national parks in America. Anna also enjoyed her trips to the casino.

Anna was a great cook and baker. Every Christmas, Linda and Elizabeth would come over to the house to make traditional German Christmas cookies for family and friends. Anna loved nature and working in her flower garden. She enjoyed family visits to Cape May and eating a fried crabcake dinner. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Relatives and friends were invited to her visitation on Thursday, June 8, 2023 from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. and Funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. at St. Cecilia Church, 535 Rhawn Street, Philadelphia, PA 19111. Her graveside service followed at Lawnview Cemetery, 500 Huntingdon Pike, Rockledge, PA 19046.

Religious services were conducted by Fr. Christopher Walsh from St. Cecilia Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Danube Swabian Association of Philadelphia and Vicinity, 1277 Southampton Road, Philadelphia, PA 19116.
