Pedro Velecico of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania passed away Monday, August 14, 2023 at VITAS - Nazareth Hospital. He was 90 years old. Pedro was born October 26, 1932 in Montevideo, Uruguay, son of the late Antonio Velecico and the late Maria Velecico (nee - Velecico). He is the beloved husband of the late Ada “Ninon” Sastre-Velecico. Father of Nicolas Velecico and his wife Sharon, Rossana Caputo and her husband Michael, and Paola Velecico-Neff and her husband David. Grandfather of Sergio Velecico and Julian Velecico, James McCarrick, Luke Neff and Julia Neff. Brother of the late Elena Velecico Matyjewicz. Also survived by his sister-in-laws Elsa Bohdanzcuk and Delia Sastre Fassero, and other friends and relatives in Uruguay, South America.

In 1965, he left his homeland to pursue a better life for his family in the United States. Pedro was a longtime member of United Auto Workers Union, and worked as a machinist for various large companies in the Delaware Valley area. Pedro participated in the manufacturing of parts that were used in the creation of the first NASA Space Shuttle. Pedro was known as a skilled machinist by his peers, with an incredibly strong work ethic and a love for his trade.

Pedro was an avid soccer/futbol fan, particularly of Danubio F.C. and “La Celeste” National Soccer Team. He loved to listen and dance to Tango and Folklore music. In his youth, he participated in a Ukranian dance group. He also loved to fish, particularly deep sea fishing. Loved spending summers in Montevideo, where he spent time with his family and friends. Pedro was happiest with a good meal and a glass of red wine, surrounded by friends and family. His children and grandchildren were his greatest source of pride.

Relatives and friends were invited to his graveside service on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at 2:30 P.M. at Lawnview Cemetery, 500 Huntingdon Pike, Rockledge, PA 19046.
