Elizabeth Colligan a lifelong resident of Philadelphia, died Wednesday, September 6, 2023. Elizabeth was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late William Shields and the late Elizabeth Shields (nee - Ryan). She is the beloved wife of the late Joseph James Colligan; mother of Susan (Michael); grandmother of Patrick Savage and his wife Ashley; grandmother of Gia, Kaylee, and Patrick Savage; sister of the late John, the late William, and the late Joseph Shields; aunt of Beth (Rick), William, Dee (Richard), and Lisa.

Elizabeth was born, raised, and educated in South Philadelphia. She and Joseph grew up in the same neighborhood, but they met after he returned from his time in the Army during the Korean War. They married on July 27, 1957. Elizabeth went to work as a clerk/typist for 14 years at General Accident Insurance in Philadelphia until her role changed to raising her daughter. Elizabeth loved that role and was always took pride in caring for her daughter, grandson, and family.

Relatives and friends were invited to her viewing on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 419 Huntingdon Pike, Rockledge, PA 19046. Her Funeral Mass began at 11:00 A.M. at St. Martin Of Tours Church, 5450 Roosevelt Boulevard, Philadelphia, PA 19124. Interment will be private.

Religious services were conducted by Father David A. Waters from St. Martin Of Tours Church, 5450 Roosevelt Boulevard, Philadelphia, PA 19124.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
