Peter A. Rafaeli of Jenkintown, Pennsylvania passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at Rydal Park. He was 91 years old. Peter was born September 20, 1932 in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia, son of the late Ernest Reichsfeld and the late Yolanda “Lola” Grotter. He is the beloved husband of Naomi and the late Inez “Inka” A. (nee Fried) Rafaeli. Loving and devoted father of Tony Rafaeli and his wife Donna, Tamar “Tammy” Rafaeli, and Doris Rafaeli. Grandfather of Daniel Rafaeli and his wife Holly. Great Grandfather of Brynn and Shelby Rafaeli. Devoted friend of Nancy Drago. Stepfather of Toby and her fiancée Mike, Gary and his wife Marika, Cheryl and her husband Michael, and Deena and her husband Jeff. Step grandfather of ten.

On September 7, 1961, Peter, Inez, Tony, and Tamar, immigrated to the United States and settled in New York City. In 1962, the family moved to the suburbs of Washington DC. The Rafaeli family welcomed their American baby, Doris, in 1966. The family moved to the Baltimore, MD area in 1967 where they lived until their final move to the Greater Philadelphia area in 1984.

After immigrating to the United States, Peter attended Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School. 

Peter was the president of West German Sales Corp, an automobile dealership, for twelve years. Prior to that, he was the dealer principal of a multi-franchise dealership in the Baltimore area. He was also active on the Mercedes Benz dealer council for many years.

Peter’s Czech heritage was very important to him, as was helping those with similar backgrounds to his. He spoke often of the Czech Republic, its heritage and especially loved the city of Prague. He was the Honorary Consul General to the Czech Republic for 24 years. Over the years, he helped nineteen families in refugee camps come to the United States and assisted them with obtaining housing and employment. In 2001, Peter joined the board of AFOCR -- American Friends of Czech Republic -- an organization dedicated to promoting the Czech Heritage and raising funds for citizens in need. He was active in that organization for almost twenty years.

Peter loved history and automobiles. He was an avid reader. He understood and spoke six languages: English, Czech, Slovak, Hungarian, German, and Hebrew.

Relatives and friends were invited to his visitation on Monday, October 16, 2023 from 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. and funeral service at 12:00 P.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 501 Easton Road, Willow Grove, PA 19090.  The services continued at 1:00 P.M. at Whitemarsh Memorial Park, 1169 Limekiln Pike, Ambler, PA. 19002.  The Block family will host Shiva at Rydal Park on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
