Ruth A. Whitehill of Meadowbrook, Pennsylvania died Monday, October 16, 2023 at St. Joseph’s Manor. She was 90 years old. Ruth was born December 16, 1932 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Friedrich G. Kuemmerle and the late Anna P. Kuemmerle (nee - Zahner). She is the beloved wife of the late George L. Whitehill Jr.; mother of George L. Whitehill III and his wife Susan and Frederick K. Whitehill; grandmother of Brandon G. Whitehill; sister of Gerda M. Schottle and her husband Reinhold; aunt of Kristi Bochniak and her husband Troy; and the great aunt of Hunter Bochniak.

Ruth was born, raised, and educated in the Olney section of Philadelphia. She was a graduate of Olney High School. She and George met at a dance, the two fell in love and were married in October of 1953. Ruth worked in the supply department at the Naval Supply Depot in the Lawndale section of the city. She was an avid reader, devout Christian who read her bible everyday, loved game shows especially Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, and doing puzzles. She was also a dedicated Philadelphia sports fan. Ruth adored her grandson and helped to raise him in his youth, making dinner and watching him while his parents worked.

Relatives and friends were invited to her visitation on Thursday, October 19, 2023 from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. and funeral service at 2:00 P.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 419 Huntingdon Pike, Rockledge, PA 19046. Her graveside service followed at Lawnview Cemetery, 500 Huntingdon Pike, Rockledge, PA 19046.

Religious services were conducted by Rev. Randy L. Barge from First Presbyterian Church of Olney.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to First Presbyterian Church of Olney, 5435 North Third Street, Philadelphia, PA 19120.
