The following obituary was written by Nancy’s family.

Nancy Norton of Abington, Pa, passed away Monday, November 13, 2023, at her residence at Sunrise Assisted Living. She was 91 years old. Nancy was born on June 11, 1932, in Ardsley, Pa. She was the middle daughter of six children, the daughter of Florence and Herman Schenkel.  She was the beloved wife of William P. Norton Jr. for 71 years, beloved mother of daughter Sue Evans and her husband Bill, son Bill Norton and his wife Colleen, son Bob Norton and his wife Lynne, and daughter Sandi Mackereth and her husband Jerry. Nancy is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Nancy graduated from Jenkintown High School in 1950.  After graduation, Nancy enrolled in Abington Hospital School of Nursing, attended one year then left in 1952 to marry her high school sweetheart Bill Norton.

Nancy was a standout athlete at Jenkintown High School in field hockey, basketball, and captain of the cheerleaders. After marrying Bill in 1952, Nancy and Bill moved to North Carolina where Bill served in the US Marine Corp, this is where they started their family with their first child, Sue. Nancy and Bill moved back to Willow Grove, Pa. where her husband Bill built their home in which they raised four children, and instilled the true values of family and love that they would use as building blocks for families of their own.

After the children were grown and on their own, Nancy became the office manager of a local chiropractic firm where she would work for 20 years.   Nancy enjoyed visiting Sue and family in Bradenton Florida, and then in the mountains of North Carolina when Sue and family moved north. Nancy loved to watch and cheer on her grandchildren as they participated in various sporting events, she loved to read, do puzzles, and watch game shows on TV. Nancy developed many close friendships through work and church, gaining the respect of all she encountered. Nancy loved the Philadelphia Phillies, and the Philadelphia Eagles, she and Bill even had season tickets for both for a period of time, loving to attend their games and cheer them on.

Nancy and Bill were active members of the Reformed Church of Willow Grove, now the Crossroads Fellowship Church where Nancy was a very active member, even taught Sunday school for a number of years.

Nancy will be missed by many, and it can be said that she lived a long and fulfilling life, always living her life as a very proud wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Special Olympics North Carolina and the National Kidney Foundation.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 11am, at the Crossroads Fellowship Church located at 1404 North Hills Ave, Willow Grove, Pa 19090.
